Poetry X Hunger follower, Ted Barnes writes that he has just released a Video Song Book called Song Sprite. And he's selling the book to support No Kid Hungry
Here's what he says about his important project -- **** Song Sprite (No Kid Hungry Indiegogo Campaign): Sing yourself the song you began as a child Live your song the one from the magical wild Know that you'll be held close as you close your eyes Know what we hear your heartbeat in your lullabies I am using an original song/video/book in an Indiegogo campaign that lasts until Jan 7 24 to try to raise money for No Kid Hungry (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/song-sprite#/), a not for profit aimed at food insecurity in the US. The song messages what I imagine to be any parents' love for their child, that is hard not to juxtapose against so many families in our country being unable to feed their children who live with constant food insecurity, a problem we could solve if we chose to do so. The campaign also messages if caregivers so choose, that by helping in the campaign (e.g., donating $50 or more to get the book) or watching the video, children are in effect helping other children get enough to eat. All money raised from the campaign after Indiegogo platform costs and book publishing/shipping costs goes to No Kid Hungry. Ted Barnes

Poetry X Hunger Poet Wins a National Poetry Competition -- Yes!
Lori Heninger, Executive Director of The Montclair Fund for Women, has won Quillkeepers Press 2023 Fall Chapbook Competition for her collection “Words for Women”. Stephanie Lamb, CEO of Quillkeepers Press said, “It is a tough world out there, and we need more strong, bold, and caring women to shine a light on and for others. Thank you for being that conduit!” Heninger wrote “Words for Women” as the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade in June of 2022. She explained, “It was a response to the increasing limits on women’s bodily autonomy. The book is about reclaiming language that has traditionally been used to demean and diminish women. Each poem’s title, such as “Battle-axe”, “Harpy”, “Housewife”, demonstrates how words were used pejoratively and how we can reclaim those words.” For more information about Lori, you can visit her website at www.LoriHeninger.com. The results are now in. We raised more than $2,500. Wow!! With that level of support, Seed Programs International (SPI) will be able to help three school gardens. So, a big thanks to all who donated. And to the poets -- Willeena Booker, Diane Wilbon Parks, Takudzwa Chikepe, Katiba Muhammed, Christopher George, Laura McGinnis and Patsy Asuncion. And thanks to Robyn Love of SPI who was such a fine partner. T. A. Niles also provided important help. Interested in seeing the recorded reading?
