The poems in this section were submitted to and judged as winners in the 2018 World Food Day Competition. Held in conjunction with World Food Day (October 16 of each year), the Competition was sponsored by the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization's North America Liaison Office in partnership with Poetry X Hunger. Themed on the 2018 WFD focus of eliminating hunger by the year 2025, many of the poems that were submitted by Washington, DC area poets are featured on Facebook at Poetry X Hunger. And, many of these powerful poems have since been used in classrooms, in newsletters, at meetings and on blogsites to draw needed attention to hunger - its causes and consequences.
