Poem by Guy Chambers

A Ghost Shadow

          lifelessness
          coldness
a ghost shadow
in the dark mist of society

skin to the bone
bare threads sewn
to one’s own

curb hope
to cope

heel for a meal
hallow thumb
for a crumb
dust scraps
from time to time

nimble on a dream
handcuff tough
neither here or there thoughts
empty hands nevertheless
not even for a prayer

abandon
heartbroken

small sunken eyes
to a cry
but not seen to the blind eyes

hunger should never be inherited
